Challenge @ Scape Sessions are designed for players to learn playing Riichi properly, matched by players of similar skillset, challenge themselves against strong players while learning high table etiquette in preparation of tournaments.

Format
Challenge @ Scape is a ranked table-ladder session — win, get promoted; lose, get demoted. Game 1 Matched by players rating.

- 4 games per day, ~90 min each
- $2 per game, flat
- Rules: WRC (World Riichi Championship)

Designed for
- Players who can play unsupervised and know all yaku
- Players who are new to this level of etiquette and are open to being gently corrected, not judged
- Players who want to be matched against others around their own skill level, rather than a random mix
- Players who like quieter environment to focus on enjoying the strategic nature of Riichi Mahjong

Open Floor
After the 4 league games, stick around for Open Floor — no ladder, no promotion/demotion, just impromptu games for whoever wants to keep playing.
- Etiquette Level 3 & Rated Games still applies.
- Seating is by lot, not player choice — players cannot pick who they play with. (If exactly 4 players stay, they simply play together.)
- Strategic discussion and WWYD (What Would You Do) quizzes with simple prizes happen here.
- WWYD quiz is only open to players who registered for all 4 league games that day — 2-game registrants are not eligible.
- Fully optional, casual pace. Full WWYD details to be announced later.
Sit-Out Rules
- Max 1 sit-out per player per session.
- Game 1: Any latecomer will sit out. If everyone’s on time, it’s decided by draw lot.
- Game 2 onward: sit-out is by result — lowest 4th place sits out.
Promotion & Demotion
After each game, players are re-seated by result — 2 players swap per table.
- 1st + 2nd place at a table → promoted to the table above.
- 3rd + 4th place → demoted to the table below.
- Table 1 (top table): no promotion above — 1st and 2nd stay.
- Bottom table: no demotion below — 3rd and 4th stay.
- Sit-out returns: a returning player is seated at the lowest-numbered table with a vacancy, prioritised by rating (higher rated → lower table number).
Game Timing
Each game runs on a 90-minute cycle, tracked by wall clock (no in-game timer):
- 70 min: complete the current hand, next hand last hand.
- 85 min: hard stop. All play ceases and scores are tallied — no exceptions regardless of hand state.
- 90 min: next game starts. 5 minutes for toilet break and reseating.
Scoring
- Hand-level scores are recorded via Telegram bot.
- North player is responsible for recording each hand.
- Patience for players still learning the format — but do not record on their behalf unless instructed by an organiser.
Automatic vs. Manual Tables
- If an automatic table becomes available, players on a manual table may switch over once they finish their current round — this keeps the han chan moving without losing time.
- Priority for switching goes to whichever table is furthest behind in rounds.
Registration Procedure
- Registering for all 4 games is the default and expected commitment.
- 2-game (partial) registration is accepted but always lowest priority — seated only after all 4-game registrations are confirmed, regardless of when submitted.
- Monday–Tuesday: early bird window. Registrations submitted on these two days are not ranked by exact timing within the window.
- From Wednesday 00:00 to Friday 12:00: first-come, first-served.
