Finally, there is an International Riichi Mahjong Competition! This is the first time a Riichi Mahjong competition is organised at an international level. So far, 3 asia countries have registered – Japan, Korea and China. Beside the majority of European countries and Russia, America and Canada are in as well. If there is any one who happens to be going Europe to tour in July, perhaps you can consider going for it and represent Singapore.

Registration fees: Euro 200 (Approx SGD$350)
The registration fee covers:
– venue and materials costs for the 4-day competition and the player welcome package
– opening and closing ceremonies (including cocktail and buffets)
– breakfast on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
– lunch on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
– drinks and snacks during the competition

Notable rules to take note:
- No Buttobi
- No Multiple Ron
- No Abortive Draw (There is exhaustive draw only)
- No Agari Yame (Last dealer do not stop the Han-Chan despite getting top)
- Uma used will be +15 +5 -5 -15
- No Aka Dora
- No Kazoe Yakuman
- Pao for Dai San Gen and Dai Suu Shii only
- Renho is 5 Han
- Doesn’t seem to have Ryan-Han Shibari (Min 2 han to win upon decided situation)
- Dora is revealed before a player’s discard
- Open Tanyao is allowed

The quota for “rest of the world” is 5, I think. More than enough for Singaporeans.
If I’m not wrong, WRC is planned to be hosted every 3 years.
