Some time ago, Miyavi, the Organiser of a meetup group, Totemo Japan approached me to see if is possible to do a workshop for Riichi Mahjong. It was a challenging task since I’ve never taught to like 20 players at 1 shot. But it is a good opportunity to promote Riichi Mahjong to more people, especially people who are into Japanese culture. In the end, 15 players were confirmed, with 14 players attended on the day. This happened on 18 June, which explains why there was no Riichi session that day.
I received a lot of help from some of us, SMC members in order to make this happen. It is really impossible for me to pull this off alone so I would really wish to thank them for:
Kae Jer – Providing the venue for us and helped me with the set up of the tables when I was late. Everyone was praising how cozy the environment was.
Eric.Q – Taking the time off to carry the tables from school to the event venue. Making feedback forms for this workshop and teach the participants with patience.
Heng – Teaching the participants and returning the tables with me after the workshop despite having lots of work to do for internship. Not to mention that Heng lives very far too.
Simon – Spending days making a double sided A5 Riichi Mahjong guide for the players. It was well used, many people was referring to it when they were playing. It will also be helpful for future new players in SMC too!
Once again thank you for making this happen!
