Those who are in Osamuko Facebook group might be aware of this but it took me a while before I realise I didn’t share this to everyone in SMC.
Osamuko Facebook group consist of mainly Non-Japanese Riichi players who share their game logs or screenshot and engage in discussion at the strategy level. If you take the time to read everybody’s comments, you will learn a lot from the stronger players. Although most people (only Lance and I actively comment) don’t comment, I do encourage players to do so. When you try to reason out your choice, you are forced to rely on logic, non-result oriented analysis to decide on the best course of action. This is the fastest way to improve, internalise and guide your own game.
1 of a reputable member there, Daina Chiba actually wrote a basic-intermediate Riichi Mahjong guide book in English. It is so far, the best english guide (in terms of strategies) ever available for now. Anything better is in Japanese.
This is especially good for players who are below 4dan (Tenhou level) players. This guide will solidify your foundation and allow you to have the basic knowledge to engage in Mahjong discussion.
Highly recommended for players who wish to improve, to invest some of the time to read this.
