Originally, the league created was a temporary replacement of the players’ rating system. Since many players are enjoying the league more and the rating system is on indefinite hiatus, we will continue the league as a permanent plan.
Although we promote competitive play in Riichi Mahjong, we also try to cater as many kind of Riichi players as possible. Not many of us dream about travelling to oversea to compete due to work/school or financial constraint but the challenging/competitive environment serve to make playing Riichi Mahjong more fun and meaningful. Therefore the direction from now on is to expose Riichi players to many kinds of rules set as well as tournament format. Players are encouraged to be flexible and adapt accordingly. Some rules are never adopted due to being unpractical for club session or no longer popular in Japan or extremely outdated rule in reality (eg. sakinin-barai for 4kantsu) Various tournament formats are taken with reference from leagues/tournaments used in Japan and Europe.
2017 will consist of 3 leagues and 3 tournaments!
Each league will consist of around 12-14 session (depending on the sessions available)
(Random note: If 3 months of a year is refer to as quarter, tertile refers to 4 months in the context of a year)
Since we didn’t plan anything for 31st December, we will start our new league for 2017 on 31st December

League Consolation Prize Scrapped
Based on feedback about the last league consolation prize being unpractical and complicated and “not right”, we will crap that idea. I totally agree with these feedback after experiencing it. Instead, we will reward players who participated the last 2 sessions of the league with 1 LP (for next league).
