Riichi Mahjong in Singapore

Background

This is an annual online riichi tournament organised by the Korean Mahjong League (KML) on Tenhou. The participants will be from Japan, China, Sweden, Hong Kong, Vietnam, England, Korea and Russia. This is Singapore’s second time participating in this tournament. There are no prizes, but we hope that our players will join in hopes of doing our country proud by winning.

Team: 5th Nov 7pm

Individual: 19th Nov 7pm

We will select 4 participants and 2 reserves to represent Singapore. The top 16 players in the team competition will qualify for the individual competition.

Format

In the team competition, there will be 4 hanchans. You will not play against someone from your own country. All 4 hanchans are mandatory. The individual competition will be in knockout format. More details will be provided to players who qualify.

Rules

Basically Tenhou rules will be used except for the following changes:

• Buttobi (bankruptcy): No
• Mid-Game Draws: No
• Double Ron: No
• Atama Hane (head bump): Yes
• Agari Yame (last dealer can win and end): No
• Sudden Death (hanchan continues to West round): No

The playing speed will be 5 + 10 seconds.

Schedule

If more than 4 players are interested in participating, we will hold selection trials to decide the participants. We will tentatively play 2 hanchans on Tenhou at 9pm about thrice a week. The schedule is flexible and will be arranged based on players’ flexibility. By default, the games will be held on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Criteria

• Only SMC players are allowed to register. If you are interested, please make sure that you have registered on this website and played at SMC before.
• Players are also reminded that they need to be able for about 2 to 3 nights a week. It is okay if players sometimes have very busy weeks.
• Players should be willing and able to represent Singapore for IORMC.
• If the total number of registrations is an inappropriate number, we might reject the latest registrations and accept trial participants on a first-come-first-served basis.
• Players who are successfully chosen to represent Singapore for WRC will be excluded from the final team for IORMC. They are still allowed to participate in both trials concurrently.

Registration will start on 26 Apr 12pm and end on 19 May 11.59pm.
