Due to the recent measures announced by the Ministry of Health, SMC sessions will be suspended with immediate effect until 30 April 2020. This suspension may be extended depending on the situation of COVID-19.
The COVID-19 situation appears to be stable and we will resuming our sessions on 7 March 2020. Please take note of the necessary screening measures that will be put in place:
1. Do not register or attend sessions if you are feeling unwell, especially if you show respiratory symptoms such as cough or runny nose. Please let the organisers know ASAP if you’re unwell on the day of the session.
2. Take part in the mandatory health screening at Nee Soon South CC, at the screening counter outside the office.
- Register with personal and contact details;
- Be screened for temperature (not above 38.0°C) and for respiratory symptoms;
- Be issued a sticker to indicate passing of screening,
Only individuals who have been issued the sticker will be allowed into the playing venue. Players without such stickers should be turned away. Persons who do not pass the screening (e.g., temperature is higher than 38.0°C) will be asked to go home.
Please do your part and understand that this is for the good of everyone in the community. Please do not force yourself to come if you are not feeling well. There will always be other opportunities to play mahjong!
Registration for the upcoming session on 7 March 2020 begins tomorrow.
From 26th to 30th August, WRC 2020 will be held in Vienna.
I’ll have to send in our players name soon and Singapore is given a quota of 3 slots to fill. Last year, I’ve asked for interested participants and I’ve gotten 4 who can definitely and interested to participate. They are Martin, Elijah, Yong Chuan and Feng.
I will be re-confirming with everybody’s participation and also taking this chance to do a last call for other players who might be interested to join. As there are limited slots, I will only give priority to players who have been playing riichi regularly in either our club or I-sports. Following that, I will check with players who are also fine with not going. If there are still more than 3 players then we will do a selection.
Please inform me that you are interested and able to join WRC 2020 by end of 17 Feb, Monday.
Due to DORSCON Orange being declared in Singapore, the commencement of sessions will be pushed back until March. The next session will be tentatively on 7 March 2020. You may start registering for the session on 1 March 2020.

Happy New Year to all!
Dear all, there will be no SMC sessions in January and the first week of February. The next session will be on 15 February 2020. See you after Chinese New Year!
We will be starting League 1 of 2020 early this time round due to Nee Soon South CC’s closure in mid-2020. The rules will be similar to the aka-ari rules we have been playing so far, except with custom uma.
Aka-Ari Custom uma rules
(Claim a winning tile that gives a yaku to a yakuless hand)
(Last dealer get to choose to end han-chan upon topping the game)
|3 Aka Dora
(Discards of terminals/honours till exhaustive draw)
(Discard Foul Reach)
(Dealing into 2/3 players)
(Score of >48,000)
(Pao for Daisangen and Daisuushii ONLY)
7700 rounded up to 8000 and
11600 rounded up to 12000
(Winning on a discard in the very first un-interrupted set of turns, before the player has had his first turn)
(End of han-chan once a player has less than 0 points)
- There will be Aka Dora (red dora) used for this ruleset.
- There will be no Kazoe Yakuman (counted yakuman). Any hand with 13 or more han is treated as a sanbaiman.
- There will be no Nagashi Mangan.
- There will be no mid-game draws.
- There will be no multiple ron. The player closer to the discarder will win the hand.
- There will be no multiple yakuman.
- All kan declared will open a new kan dora indicator immediately, regardless of the type of kan (kakan, daiminkan, ankan).
League Points (LP) system
For this league, final score and uma will be considered. See below for details:
|If only one player has final score of 25000 or more|
|If only two players have final scores of 25000 or more|
|If three players have final scores of 25000 or more|
For every 100 points above 25000 at the end of the game, 0.1 LP will be awarded.
Likewise, for every 100 points below 25000 at the end of the game, 0.1 LP will be deducted.
Chombo Penalty: -30 LP , 4000 point payment to all other players, hand is redealt
Player A will get +10.0 LP for having 10000 points above 25000 and +24 LP for achieving first place, for a total of +34.0 LP.
Player B will get +5.0 LP for having 5000 points above 25000 and +12 LP for achieving second place, for a total of +17.0 LP.
Player C will get -6.5 LP for having 6500 points below 25000 and -12 LP for achieving third place, for a total of -18.5 LP.
Player D will get -8.5 LP for having 8500 points below 25000 and -24 LP for achieving fourth place, for a total of -32.5 LP.
Player A will get +16.2 LP for having 16200 points above 25000 and +36 LP for achieving first place, for a total of +52.2 LP.
Player B will get -0.6 LP for having 600 points below 25000 and -3 LP for achieving second place, for a total of -3.6 LP.
Player C will get -1.4 LP for having 1400 points below 25000 and -9 LP for achieving third place, for a total of -10.4 LP.
Player D will get -14.2 LP for having 14200 points below 25000 and -24 LP for achieving fourth place, for a total of -38.2 LP.
Missing sessions: No penalty
Attending the 9th and 10th session: +10 LP for the next league.
LP will be halved after the 8th session of the league.
The winner of the Main League will be awarded $40 vouchers which will be presented in the next tournament.
The main league consists of 10 sessions which will have two side leagues consisting of 5 sessions each. In each of the side league, the same LP system will be used, and the winner of each side league will be entitled to fee waivers for one session.
Bonuses from the previous league will not be added to the Side League. Also, LP from the Side League will not be halved after the 8th session.
However, penalties from chombo will still be deducted from the Side League.
Attendance Points (AP) system
The attendance points system for this league will be as such:
|1st||2nd||3rd||4th||Sit-out/ Spectator||Missing sessions|
All player’s attendance points will be reduced to 10% at the start of the WRC league. Newcomers, this is the best opportunity to get higher AP than the veterans to avoid sitting out for your first game!
This ruleset is the same ruleset used in WRC 2017, with the exception of aka dora and the custom uma.
That’s all for the final league of the year! Be sure to attend to have a shot at the League Champion title!
Feel free to ask any questions regarding this league’s rules if you’re unsure.
